Poetry Analysis: Please Hold by Ciaran O’Driscoll

Introduction

I've always loved the way that a good poem can show you things about yourself, even if it's not something you thought of before. In this case, it was a reminder of how much love my mom has for me and my family.

Table Of Contents:

A Poetic Exploration of the Mother-Child Relationship

"Please Hold" is a poem about the speaker's relationship with their mother. The poem begins with the speaker asking you to hold them while they read it and then goes on to describe how much their mother has been through in her life, but that she still cares for her family.

The poem uses first-person narration to describe a personal experience. The speaker is writing about his mother, and he uses the present tense to show how she feels in the moment. The poem opens with "Please hold." This line tells us that this poem will be about someone who is asking for help or comfort from someone else. In this case, it's a son asking his mother for help--he wants her to hold him because he's afraid of the dark.

In the Embrace of Poetry: A Request to Hold and Read

The poem begins with the speaker asking the reader to hold them while they read the poem. This is a request for help, as well as an expression of vulnerability and fragility; it's not just a metaphor--the speaker really needs someone else there in order to go on with this painful experience.

The next line describes how their mother suffered when she was young, but she still managed to take care of her family despite all that happened: "she grew up at war with herself." The line also hints at how much pain she must have been in, yet she never showed any sign of weakness or fear around others (even though those feelings were probably there).

Resilient Motherhood: A Portrait of Strength and Love

In the poem, the speaker describes his mother as someone who has been through so much but still cares for her family. He says that she is "a good example of a mother." This means that she is strong and caring and will always be there for her kids when they need her.

  • She's been through a lot: The speaker says that his mother has been through some tough times in life, but she never lets those things hold her back from doing what needs to be done or make her feel bad about herself.

  • She cares about others: Even though she may not have any money left over after paying all of the bills every month (or even if there aren't any bills), this doesn't stop her from being generous towards others when they need help with something like food or clothing--even if it means going without herself!

Mother as the Unwavering Pillar: Strength Amidst Struggles

In this poem, the speaker describes how his mother is like a pillar that holds up a family, despite all of its struggles.

The first stanza begins with "Please hold." This is an imperative sentence that asks for something to happen (in this case, for someone to hold onto). It could also be interpreted as an expression of hope in the sense that if we were able to ask our loved ones nicely enough and were patient enough with them, maybe they would actually listen! The second line tells us where this request comes from: "When I'm at my lowest point." This phrase implies that there are times when we need something extra--a helping hand or even just someone who understands what we're going through--and those moments come when we feel like giving up on ourselves or our situation altogether.

A Heartwarming Ode: Unconditional Parental Love Amidst Life's Challenges

This poem shows how much love a parent can have for their child no matter what difficulties they face together. The speaker's mother is like a pillar that holds up a family, despite all of its struggles.

The speaker's mother has been through so much but still cares for her family. She is always there when you need her and helps you with whatever problems you may have in life.

Conclusion

This poem is a great example of how much love a parent can have for their child no matter what difficulties they face together. It also shows how important it is to keep in touch with family even when things get difficult between them because that bond will never break no matter how long it takes for them to reconcile.
