Who would you love to read poetry from?

Hello friends! So, we've all heard of celebrity poetry: the good, the bad and the Gabbie, but what about poetry from celebrities or notable folks who are yet to find their inner Shakespeare or Angelou?

Who out there do you wish would publish a poetry book, and why? It could be anyone from sportsmen to singers, actors to astronauts.

For me, it would be Marc Bolan (who is no longer with us but many of his songs were pure poetry and I believe many of them were initially poems), Jack White (who is apparently a poet but is yet to publish any of his work. Why, I don't know. The man appears to have a million jobs and none of them involve poetry), and Pattie Smith, unless she has already. I haven't heard anything about Smith publishing a poetry book but she is one of my favourite writers of all time, so I'd love to read endless poems from her New York arthouse mind.

This is probably not a surprise to anybody but Taylor Swift. She's released a couple of poems (at least one off the top of my head) in the booklets of extended versions of her albums but I think it would be amazing to read a collection of her poetry.

I think Bruce Springsteen would also pen an excellent collection. Two very different vibes but they're incredible lyricists.

I love these choices. I'd like to see the same, too. The only Taylor albums I have listened to are Folklore and Evermore because of how different they were to the other albums she had made, and Folklore really blew me away. I do hope she writes a collection one day because I think she does have quite a bit of poetic talent, going by the content in her last few studio albums.

I just had to stop reading and say I absolutely love this phrase: "the good, the bad, and the Gabbie." That is perfect. Music to my ears. 🤣

I think that Johnny Depp would be the perfect candidate for poetry. I saw this article years ago Johnny Depp Woos Lover Back with Flowers, Poems (which is hilarious to read given the aftermath of what happened between him and Amber), but the public was never forwarded the poem. So, it leaves me edging for knowing what he wrote.

The fact of the matter is we may never know, but it would be interesting to read nevertheless. Also, given the current status of that relationship, the idea of it makes me keen on doing a cross-analysis.

The relationship aside, I think that Johnny, given his eye for artistic expression in his NFT series Never Fear Truth, which he based on some of his celebrity friends and family, would make a great poet. I'm also a massive fan of all of his acting work (including some of the films that people have commonly never heard of before, such as What's Eating Gilbert Grape and the psychological horror The Ninth Gate.

Glad you enjoyed that phrase XD

Johnny Depp is a very good choice. There is an air of mystery around him, despite the fact that we know a great deal about his personal life, thanks to scandal and the media. But I think there is also a great deal we don't know when it comes to his inner thoughts and feelings, and the intimate ways he observes the world around him. Going by the content in the video you have attached, it seems like he's in a more emotionally vulnerable place now, so it may only be a matter of time before he adds the notches of literature and poetry to his artistic belt.

@Shen Friebe I was watching his live trial today (which is weird considering most trials are not recorded, but I guess both parties thought it was obligatory). When he was called to the stand I learned all kinds of backstory about his life growing up with an abusive mother and watching his father suffer, but out of that he explained how growing up around that has turned him into a better person. Not to say that what he went through was a good things, but I'm happy to know that something positive came from it. Also, he mentioned a lot that he was initially a musician before getting into acting, so you may be right that we won't have to wait too long now before something lyrical comes of all this. Either way, he's definitely an artsy kind of person.
