What is missing from poetry today?

Hello lovelies, old and new- and a warm welcome to the latter. :)

Poetry communities will come together like the wind, and go together in a similar fashion. It's got me wondering what it is about poetry/poetry communities/the industry of poetry that makes people so uncertain to get together, write, share, and simply indulge in the works of others? What is that barrier many writers can't cross? What makes them move away from a community, and how do they lose interest when it comes to connecting with other writers, or lose interest in writing poetry altogether?

Poetry is one of the most (if not, the most) beautiful literary art form there is, yet the field can be volatile and writers often end up abandoning their love for something so vulnerable and intimate.

What do you think will tie a poetry community closer together?

I don't really know much about online communities or their psychology.

I guess it similar to joining a club or a course. Most people test the water and don't continue after a few clases. Some people hang around for a bit but then lose interest.

A few dedicated folk continue the course.

I also think that forums are a niche nowadays. People aren't so interested in interacting in debate or critiques . Like Ken mentioned, it's all rather passive, consume and collect likes.

It's a microcosm of society. A reflection of underlying trends in the real world.

@Shen Friebe I think Reddit is another entity unto itself. It's a black hole of trolls and bots where comments get lost in time and space or downvoted to oblivion.

What people seem to want nowadays is instant feedback and lots of content. You see the most successful media accounts on Youtube or Instagram or Tiktoc are those which engage their viewers and are constantly uploading new material. I think websites and forums have just been relegated to support video driven social media. They aren't at the forefront anymore. We exist in a time that has been more concentrated on visual than ever before, writing is secondary.

If we are speaking about The Poetry Cove, I mean it has a lot of expectations to live up to, considering it's tagline. Something I think would personally encourage people to hang around and engage more is quality and encouraging and helpful feedback on poetry posted, from the staff (I know @Shen Friebe you do this).
