Over past couple of years,I've been saying,I'm going to get my name out there.
Get my Poetry out there.Yet,I'm scare.I know why. In 2018,I wrote my BEST work ever, which was an EPIC on what I went through, through out my life.Over last two years, I notice a drought in quantity of new material. I still wrote, but alot more scarce.
I did Instagram content in 2019, then stop because I realize the passion just wasn't there anymore.Did Facebook content and same thing happen.
Guess writing to raise mental health awareness, and then promoting spoken word shows to raise awareness only to find nobody (on my side from advertising) show up,is one of many ways to faze out of poetry.Being scare as to do with believing I am too late,as there seems to be no room for my poetry.Either my poetry is too generic(Self help,Dreams,Doggie dog world) or I'm coming in a time where poetry as an art form is devalue.Yes,it's great that certain Poets are raising awareness for poetry, and are opening new ways to consume poems. Will also say poetry MUST be respected as the art form that it is,which is subjective in structure.
In short,I am scare, since I don't want to disrespect poetry and if I post again,I will stop just as quick.
I would like to post,to get my name out there as a poet, yet these fears kept coming up.
Any advice on these fears and how you overcame them?
Hi @Bendy Nguyen
I never thought I'd meet someone who beats themselves up or puts pressure on themselves more than I do, but I think you definitely steal that crown haha! I say that with love of course!
You should definitely post this to our advice thread 'Signed with a heart' here: https://www.thepoetrycove.com/forum/poetry-discussion/signed-with-a-heart-the-cove-s-poetry-advice-column - Sophie is very good at giving advice and has a wonderfully delicate way of putting things.
I'm also putting out a YouTube video based on mental health for poets and managing expectations, that you may find useful on Tuesday.
