Any YouTube viewers out there? I'm guessing that as we have a similar passion in poetry that you too will have seen the Billy Collins Masterclass advert? Has anyone taken it? And if so, what was it like?
Are there any other poetry courses out there that people have taken and loved? Here in the UK a publisher called Faber and Faber run a lot of poetry courses and I'm really tempted to book one when everything goes back to normal!
I have been subscribed to the Aaron Sorkin and James Patterson masterclasses... but I'm just not a great student. I get to class 3 maybe 4 at a push and get too distracted! It's just not how I learn. Ironic when I'm a How To Youtuber hahaha I was just curious to see if anyone had done the poetry one as their marketing budget seems to allow them to appear on every poetry video out there, including mine!
I personally haven't taken one but I've been really wanting to sign up for workshops. A lot of Button Poetry poets were doing workshops and I really wanted to join some but my anxiety put a halt on that idea. If anyone's done a workshop like that, what are they like?
There are free classes on Allpoetry.com. I just took a class on rhyme and meter. I am taking others on free verse and brevity. The courses are self-paced and I find the instructor comments to be helpful and supportive. In one of our assignments, for the rhyme and meter class, we had to create a rhyme scheme and then write a poem to fit the scheme. For the assignment, I wrote a pice on New York Cit. I wlil post it in another forum. The class was a lot of fun!
I've also been intrigued by the masterclass advert but haven't taken any courses. Maybe we could all do one at the cove someday!
I've always been intrigued by Masterclass. But for me it's a bit expensive. I'm sure it's worth the money because of who the teachers are but I'm the embodiment of the 'Help me I'm poor' quote from Bridesmaids.
While there isn't anything good about the pandemic, a silver lining for me is that I've had the opportunity to participate in so many classes/workshops thanks to zoom! Last summer, I was on a course held by one of my favourite poets, Sierra Demulder, and I'm signed up for one hosted by Sabrina Benaim starting this Tuesday.
The Sierra Demulder one was really interesting, actually, because it was about themed collections which was something I hadn't considered before.
