I'm a little ashamed to say I haven't read Bluebird until now, but thank you for sharing, Adam! I like what the 'blue' bird represents for the speaker, which I assume is Bukowski himself. And I really don't think anyone in history can do spoken poetry like Maya. What a gem to this world.
When I think of poetry that changed the world, i think of 'Howl also'. It's a bit of a modern epic tragedy and that's why it resonates with so many people. If we're talking about literature that can be accessed in most parts of the world, we haven't really seen anything like 'Howl' since maybe one of Shakespeare's melancholic soliloquies.
