@The Garish Grackle recently posted a blog post on Howl by Ginsberg. If anybody has seen the Franco film on it will recognise the below video. I really enjoy the way it has been made!
It got me thinking. What poems do you fan over that literally changed the world, and are there any readings on YouTube reading of it you prefer?
I'm a little ashamed to say I haven't read Bluebird until now, but thank you for sharing, Adam! I like what the 'blue' bird represents for the speaker, which I assume is Bukowski himself. And I really don't think anyone in history can do spoken poetry like Maya. What a gem to this world.
When I think of poetry that changed the world, i think of 'Howl also'. It's a bit of a modern epic tragedy and that's why it resonates with so many people. If we're talking about literature that can be accessed in most parts of the world, we haven't really seen anything like 'Howl' since maybe one of Shakespeare's melancholic soliloquies.
I'd say Sylvia's 'Daddy' spoke to a lot of people:
Another poet/poem that changed the world:
Not a poem that changed the world. A certainly much loved one though!
This is probably the best reading of any poem I've ever heard! It was a real pleasure coming across for the first time and I return to it at regular intervals! Tom O'Bedlam has such a tortured way of reading it. His channel as a whole is a real gem! Sadly he stopped posting a while ago, but this is really something!
I wouldn't say poetry that made me fan over.Probably poems I have perform.
I am learning to be my own biggest fan.
And these readings I will be doing are going to be on Tik Tok this week.
In spite of fear,I will post poetry readings and if you follow me,you will see my face.
