Hey there, Covers! This post isn't going to be as saucy as I lead on in the title, but I do have legitimate questions regarding poetry about the birds and the bees. If you have ever written a poem or poems about mature topics, do you feel comfortable posting them? What do you get concerned about? And do you think the Cove is the right place to post them?

Yeah I agree @Shen Friebe, and to clarify absolutely not condoning. I would err on the side of putting a trigger warning anyway, I think - better safe than sorry for all concerned
This is a really interesting topic @Shen Friebe, I am anxious about posting more adult content on The Cove, not so much the birds and bees but adult topics, or violent/upsetting imagery. I've been reading a lot of peoples work on here to gauge the tone and it tricky. That's not a bad thing, the last thing I would want to do is upset or offend people.
I guess it depends on how much you you need to get that poem out there.
I always used to say that if you're not offending anyone then you're not saying anything interesting.
Hahaha
I don't really believe that so much now
but if you feel the need to write about stuff not suitable for kids then do it.
If you're worried about people who know you, well then they should understand you well enough to accept your art for what it is.
As for poetry cove the right place to put it?
you'll have to ask the admins
I personally have no problem talking about mature things, but I do always concern myself with how a reader will react to what I've written. Especially given that I haven't published anything professionally yet.
Like imagine that you're just starting out and don't have your foot in the door yet. Do you want to be labeled by that one poem that everyone went flipso over? It can be quite concerning.
Also, if a "bad reputation" were to come of sharing, it could very well make it's way to a potential future publisher's ears and they may not want to take on your profile.
So I mean there is a lot to consider when we write something for the general public.
That being said, there is a way around this by limiting who has access to the mature content you're publishing.
This could be easily remedied by using a pseudonym (other name). Just don't put your face on it.

A writer could be selective with who they share it with by creating a password protected document and only entrusting it to those closest to them (those who are trustworthy).
