DAY 4:
"The Object Whisperer"
Choose a nearby object and imagine it has a secret. Write a poem revealing that secret from the object’s point of view.
Object: Vintage Schrade 152 hunting knife.
Form: Haibun
Title: One Purpose
You wake me from my year-long slumber upon my shelf with the dust and cobwebs.
I am prepared for my singular purpose in your eyes, the one thing I have been deemed “usful” for.
I travel through the trees and grass quietly, waiting for the moment I can shine once again for my once-a-year use.
My steel cools to ice what I touch, my bone being the only warmth I retain. The cold is the only thing that we can expect to always be here as we wait for what may never come.
Warmth flows over me in its river of red, seeping into the dried leaves of the frozen ground as I move on to another cut, long and smooth, a cloud of steam filling the cold air with white.
I am placed upon my shelf to sleep once again until the time I am called upon for the one purpose I am allowed.
I wake from long sleep
With gentle hand I slice prey
Stained I sleep again
