So some of you might have seen I just got a puppy last week Monday. I’ve gone a whole week without being able to go for walks which has been a pain because I LOVE my walks! I bought a sling yesterday to put Harry in and am going to try it out today! (I can’t put him on the ground yet until he has had his second jab next week)
Anyway, if there’s anyone here that is also an avid Walker, is there anything you love particularly about it other than the usual?
Aside from the therapeutic side of things I love walking because it’s when I do my best thinking. So many lines of poetry have come from walks, so many plot points for my screenplays and fiction too! I also love exploring and I’m one of those people who can’t stay in one place for too long otherwise I’ll get grumpy.
So I ask again, why do you go on walks and what do you like best about them?
I used to walk so much and loved it. It was brilliant for both my mental and physical health, too. In Lockdown I went back to it slightly by buddy walking with friends but then life started to revert, I totally got out the habit and now I feel like there's never really the time. Since the husband took up hiking I keep thinking about starting carving out the time to do it again.
At the risk of being a total blasphemer, I love listening to music while walking alone. It blocks out the dog walkers (there are a LOT round our way) and the farm machinery and the film set and just allows me to enjoy the scenery.
I like to go on walks in my local nature trails because it allows me to get away from the raucous nature of living in the suburbs. That and my flat mates can get on my nerves after a while. The best part though is being able to get my mind set straight. It's like all the clouds dissipate and I can see more clearly. I guess like you Adam I use my walking time to think and do some self-talk. I've written journal entries many times with my pocket book I keep with me sometimes. Nature has a way with giving up little secrets if you know how to listen for them.
I like walking because I don't have a car!!
But seriously, walking is a natural thing to do for humans.
Taoist masters recommend 'aimless walking'
It's like wandering around as if you're lost with nowhere to go.
I used to have two great dogs, a Collie and a German Shepherd. When we went walking in the hills it was so beautiful to see them running. Also when you're outside walking around, your energy is moving. Your eyes are looking around and if you're not in the city your eye energy can stretch to the horizon.
Walking in the city is cool because you can look at all the funny people everywhere.
I really enjoy my alone time and taking myself out on coffee dates, shopping dates and walks, but I've always considered myself to be an introvert against my will. I was the biggest loner up until the age of 21, when I started finding better friends and getting invited to house parties, events and etc. Though I'm more of an ambivert in actuality, I don't enjoy being alone 80-90% of the time so that's why I take advantage of my loneliness.
Very much like yourself, I like to explore. I like to spot weird or funny things on my walks. You miss special stuff like that when you're not alone. I like strangers smiling at me as I walk past and vice versa (there's nothing more pure than that, in my opinion!) I like the serenity of the green parks, and I like self-reflecting A LOT. Like yourself and Bendy, I also get a lot of ideas for poetry on my walks. And the best part about exploring when you're craving interpersonal connection? You get to meet all sorts of people and have experiences that are worth remembering or even writing about; some strangers have made their way into my poems. I would highly recommend anyone to walk through the city, or wherever there is civilisation if you want to get the best out of being alone. And walking with a dog a will guarantee people to flock to you!
I go on walks as a form of reflection.
I too get ideas from walks.
I do it primarily for exercise and going to grocery stores.
Also,I love walking in grocery stores,as this clears my mind and makes me see where my life really going.
Something about seeing bread and smells of eateries that tingles senses.
Sight Korean BBQ and Sweet and Spicy wings makes me imagine a monster devour 1000 wings,3000 sweet potato soufflé and pint of Rebel Mint Ice Creams!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also, depending on where you walk, you may see sightings you may not seen before.Along with exploring a different part of country or county.
I love to walk for fun one of these days.
And not for groceries or business trips.
However,I will say,a walk of any kind is worth it,especially in the rain!!!!!!!!!
