Great thread topic,Adam:
Okay,I won't say anything theatre related, even though, that was the best time of my life.
Turning point 1:When I discover poetry due to extra credit assignment.I actually thought my teacher was lying, first poem was call Trust and it was a Shakespearan Sonnet.I was trying to find it the other day and couldn't find it.Looks like I need to rewrite the poem, would I? I wouldn't mind it,actually. This extra credit assignment was turning point in that's how I got introduce to world of poetry.By being bored of poetry, and writing my own, since I thought my ideas were "original" at the time.
Turning point 2:When I did spoken word for first time. This was nerve wrecking. So nerve wrecking I didn't record it lol. However,I did feel I had something to prove.I wasn't some average senior, since I was a high school senior by that point.A friend told me about a coffeehouse at my school and I wrote two poems exclusively for coffeehouse. With my first performance, incredibly nervous, and I didn't get much a reaction. However by the time i was done, about 85 percent of audience clap and best part, someone came up and told me they love the poem.I told the person whenever I get famous, they will be the first person they gets an autograph of my poetry book(well, since its only like 21 poems,it would most likely be a chapbook, however still excited to get this book out there,I just need to get back to finish it.)
Turning point 3:When I completed my first course. So over the years I was trying solve my life problems by investing in courses:Email Marketing,Copywriting,Digital Marketing, hell even coaching(which is the one I decided to go with in this time) and I only have one question none were answering:How do I go about life?
I went into this course with mindset no matter what,I will complete this course.I did just that.I even call off work just to finish course and I'm glad I did.Which is why I'm committed to methodology of this course.I also completed speaking course on New Years Day,such an amazing accomplishment.
Turning point 4:First acting class:When I was a kid,I said I was going to be an actor.I did to some degree. However, when I went to first acting seminar everything change.Within same month,I went to first audition and got into class.I was 3 to 4 years younger than I am now and completed my first acting class,in spite of not being financially stable at the time(hell, still financially unstable, yet, those past experiences are what made me who I am now)
Turning Point 5:When I started posting on social media.Even though I start posting on Instagram in 2019 and 2020,i was getting my poetry out there. And I did try new things.I did something like Arostic Mondays,Limerick Wednesdays and Haiku Fridays.I think i only did one form right lol,Aerostic,if not, then all 3 styles were wrong lol. But,I did something different, even though i didn't know exactly what rules were, outside of line structure of a Haiku and Limerick.
Turning Point 6:Posting self help content in 2020 led to a breakthrough that happen recently. My mentor was pushing me to post on social media 3 times a week.I was scare, but did it anyway.Yet,over the years,I had start and stop on posting content. What I came to realize is I was focus on outcome, not process, which is why I felt frustrated.I remember watching a motivational video where they said something along the lines of :"Results are the only thing that matters.I obviously took it by heart, since I only focus on result, not process. And I think that's why I've been so hard on my poetry lately, because it is in dire need of a makeover. However,if my personal development poetry is helping someone, then its helping someone.Even though it isn't the content I prefer to make, they're still enjoy.Hell, all those poems I perform at poetry mic cafe, was all personal development related.I think my poetry will change, into something more rigid in structure.Which will come in time,as I read and hear more poetry.
Turning Point 7:Submitted my first poetry track for Poetry Cove Radio. And I will submit more.If anyone told me I was going to submit for a radio station(at least I think its a station)my younger self would think I'm crazy.Well, yes I am crazy.Because,I will continue to submit my poetry to Poetry Radio Station no matter what form the content is in.Personal Development or Life Horrible, won’t matter as those kinds poems in particular shape me as poet I've been.Being was radiating sunshine in a cold town,as while everyone will literally meet me at phase 2,they may not have heard me in phase 1.This was more than a Turning point, this was a declaration. That this poetry walk didn't peak and finish in 2018.If it was,why the hell did i post content in 2019,made a poetic gift for a friend(that i admittedly am in love and may still be in love with,in spite of not going on dates or anything)and started writing poetry book in 2020 and still finishing book in 2021?Which may be push back to 2022,I digress.Point is,I'm not done,I will continue to honor the art that made me the man I am today,
If you read through, thank you COVERS so much for support. Not just for me,for others as well.I do wish I founded something like this sooner,as this was something I yearn for in my 7 year poetry journey. So glad I found this wonderful community and will proudly wave Poetry Cove Flag(or T-Shirt) for as long as I shall live!!!!!!!!!!
